Lisa: Worcester absolutely loves Brit Floyd! It seems to get more popular every time we bring it here. Tell us a little about your journey.

Damian: I’ve been playing Pink Floyd music professionally for 26 years. I started Brit Floyd 10 years ago, but prior to that I was in another Pink Floyd show for 17 years. I discovered Pink Floyd when I was about 13 years old ,and little did I know at that point that I would be doing what I do now as a musician. In my 20’s, I had the opportunity to perform a Pink Floyd show, and here I am, 26 years later, touring the world playing Pink Floyd music to thousands and thousands of fans.

Lisa: It’s incredible. I too remember listening to Pink Floyd, and it’s amazing how it’s maintained its relevance. What do you think the secret is and what do people connect with?

Damian: Pink Floyd is simple yet complicated at the same time. There are a lot of messages in the lyrics that are relevant and a lot of beautiful melodies happening and emotion in the music. All of the ingredients put together help make it remain relevant and find new fans in new generations.

Lisa: Tell us a little bit about Echoes 2020 and how it differs from some of the other tours that you have brought to us.

Damian: The track, “Echoes,” itself is an iconic Pink Floyd track that was on the metal album way back in 1971. It was the point of Pink Floyd’s discovery of that sound and what was to come with it. It set the scene for the albums to come afterwards. Besides from that, we’re playing a whole variety of the tracks from different albums. We’re giving people a very wide experience of Pink Floyd’s tracks.

Lisa: Echoes is a 23 minute song. Is that right?

Damian: Yes, it is.

Lisa: Part of what makes your performance so amazing is the note-by-note performance of the original. Tell us a bit about what it’s likes to break it down. 23 minutes is a long song, how many notes would that end up being? Thousands?

Damian: I suppose so. I don’t count every one. It could probably be tens of thousands.

Lisa: What gave you the idea to bring that to your new production? Was it because you haven’t done it before?

Damian: We have done it before, but not in about 5 years, so it felt like the right moment to bring it back. Every year we try to change the set list as much as we possibly can. There are tracks that people are going to expect to hear, but outside of that we try to represent as many of Pink Floyd’s albums as possible. Even after doing it for all these years, there are still Pink Floyd tracks that we have never played.
