Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering at Aladdin 2023

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at THT!

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on volunteers for many important positions at the theatre.

Congratulations to our November Volunteer of the Month, Janet Rabidou!

Event Volunteers
These volunteers assist patrons at all venues of The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory, including Francis R. Carroll Plaza, The Hanover Theatre main stage, The Hanover Theatre Conservatory & Event Center and the BrickBox Theater at the JMAC. Volunteers assist patrons to their seats as well as prepare and distribute printed materials, such as programs.
Event Volunteer positions include:

  • Usher

  • Greeter

Administrative Volunteers
These volunteers assist the theatre’s box office and/or administrative staff in daily functions such as data entry, assisting with customer database updates, answering phones, stuffing envelopes or programs, stuffing and posting mailings, preparing will call tickets and general organization of the office.

Garden/Plaza Maintenance Volunteers
These volunteers assist in maintaining the grounds of Francis R. Carroll Plaza located in front of the theatre. Volunteers help to remove trash from the grounds as well as mulch, weed, water and care for plants and flower beds, and assist in new plantings.

Docent Tour Guide Volunteers
After volunteering for a full season, volunteers can apply to become Docent Tour Guides. These volunteers guide groups through an educational Historic & Architectural Tour of The Hanover Theatre.

Season Kick-Off Luncheon
At the start of each season, following training, we host a luncheon to welcome our new volunteers and give them an opportunity to meet our seasoned volunteers. Lunch is served, stories are shared and the volunteer of the year is announced!

Early Access to New Shows
Current volunteers have a benefit attached to their accounts in our ticketing system giving them early access to tickets for most new shows before they go on sale to the public! Volunteers should ensure they are logged into their account before attempting to access tickets.

Free Show of the Month*
Each month, volunteers are offered two (2) complimentary tickets to a select performance. The offer of the month is announced in each monthly show sign-up email.

BOGO*
For every four shows you work, you’ll be eligible to buy one ticket and get one ticket free (BOGO) for select shows and performances.

Volunteer Recognition Night
At the end of each season in June, we host a recognition night for that season’s volunteers, their dedication and all the amazing things they do during the year. This is a fun-filled evening with dinner, prizes, awards and lots of gratitude!

*Shows are not guaranteed to be BOGO or Free Show of the Month, and participation is determined by a show’s promoter. Current volunteers should see the Volunteer Handbook for more details. Garden and administrative volunteers should see the Volunteer Handbook for information on when BOGO vouchers are distributed.

Janet Krause

Volunteering at The Hanover Theatre has always been very special to me. It is one of my happy places to be at. Everyone is friendly, kind and interesting to talk to. I’ve volunteered with friends and also made new friends. The staff is always so appreciative of the volunteers. I’m so grateful that The Hanover Theatre was able to survive after the Covid shutdown.

We are honored to recognize Janet Krause with this prestigious title. Janet was born in Worcester and spent the first part of her childhood growing up in a three-decker owned by her grandparents. As an adult she moved to Grafton where she lives today. Janet taught for 38 years in the Worcester Public School system, tutored part-time for 14 years, and continues to tutor a few hours per week for Rainbow Collaborative in Worcester. She has two children and one grandchild, all living out of state.

Janet began volunteering for The Hanover Theatre in 2008 following encouragement from two inaugural volunteer friends. A er applying, she ushered 75 shows in her first year alone!

Nearly two decades later Janet says, “I believe that I have had the opportunity to be assigned at just about every position in the theatre and at the BrickBox—elevator, loge, box seats, ticket taking and more. Now I work concessions, which I love. There’s never a dull moment here. The work is always very interesting and nice.”
