Autism Welcoming
In 2023, THT was certified as an Autism Welcoming Business by Autism Alliance of MetroWest! The Hanover Theatre strives to create a welcoming, inclusive community for all attendees of our shows. Accommodations of support will be provided, including a quiet area for individuals and caretakers that may need a break from the theatre experience. Please talk to our concierge desk for more info. THT also hosts a sensory-friendly performance of A Christmas Carol. These performances are intended as a unique theatre experience for patrons who are neurodiverse, have sensory sensitivities and need additional accessibility accommodations.
Sensory-Friendly Performance
This performance is intended for guests who are neurodiverse, have sensory sensitivities and need additional accessibility accommodations. With guidance from The Autism Alliance, The Arc of Opportunity, The Autism in Theatre Initiative and The Seven Hills Foundation, we have softened the most startling moments of the show. House lights are kept on but dimmed for the entirety of the performances and sounds are lower in volume and intensity. Accommodations of support will be provided, including a quiet area for individuals and families that need a break from the experience where staff and volunteers can assist patrons’ needs.
The 2024 sensory friendly performance of A Christmas Carol is on Wednesday, December 18 at 4 pm.
Our business is part of an Autism Welcoming community. We take extra steps to make small, but impactful changes to support individuals with autism and their families. Learn more about what it means to be Autism Welcoming on the Autism Alliance website.
Service Animals
For patrons accompanied by a service animal, we recommend sitting on the orchestra level for the comfort of the animal and customer experience.
Animals smaller than two feet in length may find comfort in the balcony. However, the leg room provided is not as wide as our rows in on the orchestra level. Please notify the box office in advance if you’re attending a show or event with a service animal.
Website Accessibility
Our website, TheHanoverTheatre.org, features the accessiBe accessibility widget to enhance usability for all visitors. This tool allows users to customize their browsing experience with features like screen reader support, keyboard navigation, display adjustments, and more.
Look for this circular icon in the lower left-hand corner of the window to adjust your settings:
Learn more about accessiBe on their website.
Our website also includes a language translation widget that allows visitors to view content in Spanish, Hindi and Chinese. This widget is located in the lower right-hand corner of the window. On our ticketing site, we integrate Google Translate to provide access in a wider range of languages.
Wheelchair Accessibility
Parking spaces adjacent to the Federal Courthouse on Southbridge Street are reserved for vehicles displaying a disability placard or license plate. The police detail stationed in front of the theatre will be happy to assist you. The Federal Plaza Garage also has several spaces reserved for accessibility, so companions are more than welcome to drop-off in front of the theatre and then park in the garage.
An elevator inside the theatre provides access to lower and upper lobbies for orchestra and lower balcony seating. Accessible bathrooms are located on each level. Please note, there is no elevator to upper balcony seating.
Spaces in the theatre are reserved near the front of the orchestra for patrons who use wheelchairs and for their ambulatory companions. When purchasing tickets, please be sure to mention if any accommodations are required, including low vision, hard of hearing and limited mobility. It is the intent of the theatre to comply with all ADA provisions where practical. Early entry into the house is available for patrons with ADA needs before the general public.
For any accessibility questions not answered here, please contact the box office Monday through Saturday 10am-6pm at 877.571.7469.
