Acting & Theatre

Acting the Song (Teens & Adults)

Learn to release the actor/singer's full instrument through a unique process of “monologuing” the song, constructing a backstory, and identifying the acting instructions contained in the music.

The class will train students on how to focus on storytelling through the song. Students will be required to bring sheet music for two contrasting musical theatre songs (ballad and up-tempo) in 32-bar cuts. As this class focuses on the performance aspect of a song, pieces should be vocally prepared. It is recommended that separate voice lessons be taken while enrolled in this course. In addition to the weekly instructor, an accompanist/vocal coach will be provided during specific classes in order to put these techniques to use. This class is strongly recommended for teens preparing college audition materials and adults preparing for local auditions.
