ABOUT THE HANOVER THEATRE

The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory is a 2,300-seat historic venue in Worcester, Massachusetts.

This production is currently under negotiation on AEA Independent Theatre Contract (ITC).

Current minimum weekly salaries:
Actor: $827.00
Stage Manager: $1,023.00
Assistant Stage Manager: $953.00

After all AEA appointments are scheduled, remaining available slots will be scheduled for non-union actors in the order they are received. AEA actors will also be permitted to walk in, per AEA rules.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities, are encouraged to submit.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

Sides will be emailed to the confirmed list of actors on June 9th and will also be available in printed form at the check-in desk.

Additionally, prepare a short song (16 bars), holiday or legit preferred.

BREAKDOWN

SEEKING ALL ROLES. Excellent ensemble skills are a must for all roles listed. British accents, musical instruments and experience with physical movement and puppetry is a plus.

EBENEZER SCROOGE: Any ethnicity. 50s-60s. Very broad character arc from cold and curmudgeonly to vulnerable to warm.

JACOB MARLEY: Any ethnicity. 40s-50s. Like Scrooge, covers a very broad range of emotions in a short time. A member of ensemble following appearance as Marley, vocal and movement abilities a plus. Note: Jacob Marley flies on a single-point rig, previous experience preferred but not critical; character is 5’8” or under and 160lbs or less for flying purposes.

ADULT TIMOTHY: Any ethnicity. 40s. Narrator. Vocal and movement abilities a plus.  A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles-including but not limited to Topper and Young Scrooge.

BOB CRATCHIT: Any ethnicity. 30s-40s. Scrooge’s Clerk. Vocal and movement abilities a plus.  Comfortable carrying Tiny Tim on his shoulder. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

MRS. CRATCHIT: Any ethnicity. 30s-40s. Attentive Wife and Mother. Good with harmonies. movement ability a plus. Comfortable carrying Tiny Tim.  A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles-including but not limited to Christmas Future.  Comfortable wearing an additional 25lbs of weight as Christmas Future.

MARTHA CRATCHIT: Any ethnicity.  20s.  Eldest daughter of the Cratchits. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

BELINDA CRATCHIT: Any ethnicity. Presents younger than 20. Daughter of the Cratchits.  A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles including but not limited to Fan.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT: Any ethnicity. 30s-60s. Joyful and wise. Comfortable with light movement. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST: Any ethnicity. 20s-40s. Wise and empathetic. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles including but not limited to the Matchseller and Lucy.

BELLE: Any ethnicity. 20s. Wise beyond her years. Vocal Range: Soprano. Good with harmonies. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles including but not limited to Suzanna.

MR. FEZZIWIG: Any ethnicity. 40s-60s. Boisterous and energetic. Comfortable with light movement. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

MRS. FEZZIWIG: Any ethnicity. 40s-60s. Everyone’s favorite mother. Comfortable with light movement. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

DICK WILKINS: Any ethnicity. 20s. Fezziwig’s Clerk. Comfortable with light movement. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

FRED: Any ethnicity. 30-40s. Cheerful and outgoing. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles-including but not limited to Old Joe. 

MILLIE: Any ethnicity. 30-40s. Married to Fred, a gracious hostess. A member of the ensemble and will play multiple roles.

Note: Youth performers who are members of the Actors’ Equity Association may audition for any roles at this time, but it’s likely that the following roles will be cast at a later date: Turkey Boy, Peter Cratchit, and Tiny Tim.

Experience working with ZFX flying effects as well as large casts in large venues is beneficial.
