Announcing The Hanover Theatre Repertory

Currently, Worcester audiences have to trek to either the Berkshires or Boston to see professional, dramatic plays, including productions of iconic works.

Given The Hanover Theatre's mission to foster a love and appreciation for the performing arts in audiences of today and tomorrow, it seems only fitting that we would create The Hanover Theatre Repertory (THT Rep) to fill the void, especially in light of the opening of the new BrickBox Theater at the Jean McDonough Arts Center in downtown Worcester.

Indeed, THT Rep is committed to engaging, entertaining and energizing audiences with dynamic theatrical events made in and for Worcester's BrickBox Theater, focusing on classics, modern classics and classics-inspired works.

Why the BrickBox?

Between its intimate seating and industrial aesthetic, the BrickBox is perfect for fresh, sophisticated stagings of classic texts written before 1900 (think Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet), modern classics written between 1900 to 2000 (think Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun), and contemporary works that are somehow classics-inspired (think Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa's Abigail/1702, inspired by Arthur Miller's The Crucible).

Furthermore, THT Rep productions and events will be created right here in Worcester, with talent pooled not only from central Massachusetts, but also Greater Boston, New England and New York City.

As THT Rep is just launching, check back soon as we roll out additional programming and more details on the vision and values driving this initiative.

Prepare to be Poe'd!

Poe Double Header October 1-25

THT Rep's first offering is a safe, socially distant adventure in pandemic theatre-going. In fact, we are the first producer in Massachusetts approved by Actors' Equity Association to host an indoor event.  Audiences of 20 or less will enjoy an hour-long evening featuring the private performance of The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado, directed and performed by THT Rep's artistic director, Olivia D'Ambrosio Scanlon.

From October 1 through October 25, you can book a private performance on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday of your choice in either the BrickBox Theater or at your residence. Seated cabaret style and staged as a seance, you will conjure the narrators of Poe's stories to "visit" through the medium of a single live performer.  We'll pre-set your table with bubbly and dark chocolates, to help.

The performance is approximately 40 minutes in length, without an intermission.  To ensure we seat and leave the theatre in a safe, socially distant manner, please allow a full hour for the entire event.  Please note that all patrons will be required to wear masks and have their temperature checked at the door.

Book your Private Poe Performance Today

If you book a performance in the BrickBox, you may invite up to 19 guests.  Seating will be cabaret style with "pods" of two to four seats available at high and low-top tables, each pre-set with a bottle of prosecco and individually wrapped dark chocolates.

If you book a performance in your home, we will make arrangements on a case-by-case basis to ensure all permanent residents at your address can safely enjoy Olivia's work.

The booking fee is $2500 per performance.  If you are booking in the BrickBox Theater, you can ask guests to reimburse you directly ($125/head) or encourage them to make a donation to The Hanover Theatre's Resiliency Fund.  As a nonprofit organization, all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
To encourage healthy decision making, all booking fees will be fully refundable up through the day and time of your private performance.  If you or anyone in your party does not feel well, PLEASE ask for a refund and we will gladly provide it!
