Poe Safety Protocols

Below is a summary of the 15-page safety plan approved by Actors’ Equity Association and independently reviewed by Magdalena Slosar-Cheah, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Audience Safety

  • All patrons will be required to wear masks.  If you forget your mask, we’ll have extras on-hand to help you out.

  • Patrons will be temperature checked upon arrival, submit a short form to confirm they are symptom free and provide a preferred telephone number in the unlikely event we’ll need to use it for contact tracing.

  • Each patron group will be seated at its own cafe table.  Cafe tables will be distanced from one another by 6 feet or more.

  • A 20 foot distance will be kept between patrons and the performer at all times.

  • Patron groups will be invited to exit the theater one-at-a-time, to help facilitate social distancing.

  • In lieu of concessions, sealed bottles of champagne will be available on each table, together with individually wrapped dark chocolates.

  • Champagne flutes will be washed after every performance.

  • We are performing without an intermission, to limit bathroom use.

  • We are selling the event to private groups, as opposed to putting tickets publicly on sale.  Patrons are in control of who joins them in the theater (and who doesn’t!).

Creative Team Safety

  • All creative team members will be temperature-checked each day, and required to wear a mask at all times, with the exception of the performer only when she is onstage.

  • All creative team members, including our performer, stage management team, and front-of-house managers, will be tested for COVID at St. Vincent’s Hospital at least once per week.

  • All costume pieces will be sanitized after every production.

  • Our performer will wait to exit the theater until after all patrons have left the building.

Venue Safety

  • Per Governor Baker’s guidelines for indoor events, we are maintaining occupancy in the BrickBox within 8 people / 1,000 square feet, up to 25 people total.  The BrickBox measures 4200 square feet, with a 20 foot ceiling.

  • Touchless hand sanitizer dispensers will be made available throughout the space.

  • 6 foot social distancing markers will be placed on the floor.

  • A partition will protect our front-of-house check-in staff from patrons, and vice versa.

  • The Jean McDonough Arts Center will be cleaned with electromagnetic technology after each and every performance.  All high-touch surfaces will also be sanitized and wiped down, again after each and every performance.

  • The BrickBox was built with a brand new HVAC system, outfitted with CDC-compliant MERV 13 filters.  The air in the space will be fully circulated more than twice during the hour-long performance event.
