Friday, August 03, 2018

Event Description

Presented by WICNPresented by the Theatre District Alliance
WICN Public Radio, in collaboration with The Theatre District Alliance, presents Jazz at Sunset, featuring the James Montgomery Band. The area behind the theatre will be transformed into an outdoor, picnic-style concert venue to include food trucks and cash bars.

This event is rain or shine. We are watching the weather closely and asking guests to be prepared with umbrellas, rain jackets or ponchos and appropriate shoes. There are no refunds, exchanges or rain dates. We will accommodate as best we can, keeping everyone's safety at the forefront of our minds.
Jazz at Sunset
Recent inductee into the Rhode Island Hall of Fame, James Montgomery and his band will be featuring songs from their last CD dedicated to the late Paul Butterfield, as well as playing old favorites as the band approaches it’s 50th year! Butterfield was a true innovator, and the band has taken some of his songs one step further. Montgomery has always modeled his live show after Butterfield and his lifelong mentor and Blues Legend, James Cotton, so expect high energy blues laced with rock and just enough funk!
Guitarist George McCann, who hails from the Worcester area, is considered one of the best guitar players in the country and has played with The Blues Brothers and in one of Steven Tyler’s solo bands. Bassist David Hull was in the Buddy Miles Band, The Joe Cocker Band, and always plays in the Joe Perry Project, and has subbed as Aerosmith’s bassist on a few occasions. Jeff Thompson, once with the popular swing band Bellevue Cadillac, is Montgomery’s favorite drummer and had a speaking role in “Patriots Day” along side Mark Wahlberg.
Joining the Montgomery Band for Jazz at Sunset will be the amazing Amanda Carr, who has guested with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, as well as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and has been described by the Boston Herald as “an entertainer in the first degree.” This show will have something for everyone, but prepare to be rocked!
